A disappointing homestand left the Detroit Tigers with a sour taste in their mouths. They will try and find and string some wins together on the road, starting with the three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.

Detroit is coming off a rough seven-game homestand against the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians, where they won just one of their seven contests, including being swept by division rival Cleveland prior to heading to Chicago. Despite solid pitching over the last three games, the Tigers’ offense was not able to come through. That helped the Tigers become just the fourth team in the big leagues to reach the 70-loss mark. They are just 2-8 this month, and are hitting the road where they have struggled this season. Coming into Friday, Detroit is just 17-37 away from Comerica Park.

The White Sox are happy to be back in Chicago, as they won three of their eight games on the road, including losing three of four to the Kansas City Royals. Their 5-6 record in the month of August has not helped their push for a Wild Card spot. Currently, the ChiSox are an even .500, 3.5 games back of the American League Central-leading Guardians, and three back of the Rays for the final Wild Card spot.

The Tigers come into Friday with a 20-30 record against AL Central teams, while Chicago is an even 23-23 in 2022.

This is the fourth series of the season between the two divisional rivals, with the White Sox winning seven of the first 10 matchups, though the teams split a four-game series on the southside last month.
