Day three of the Little League Baseball World Series sees a couple teams looking to improve to 2-0, while the last four teams who have yet to play get some action on Friday.

Tennessee (1-0) vs. Utah (0-0)

Coming out of Santa Clara, Utah took the Mountain Region with a just a trio of wins, scoring 19 runs over that span. A mixture of timely defense and solid offense helped them get through to Williamsport, including Brex Whitney, who had four RBIs on just two hits.

The team from Nolensville, Tennessee let some precipitation rain on their opening day. After scoring first in the second inning against Massachusetts, they put up a four-spot in the third inning to take a big five-run lead. Though the squad from New England tried to make it close, Tennessee hung out for a 5-3 win. William Satinoff had a great game at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBIs.

New York (0-0) vs. Hawaii (1-0)

Representing the Metro, the team from Massapequa needed just three wins to send another team from the Empire State to the LLBWS. The team scored 17 runs over their three contests, featuring a dominant complete game pitching effort from Joey Lionetti in the championship game against New Jersey. Lionetti struck out 17 batters, giving up three earned runs in 11.1 innings of work.

In the final game of the night on Wednesday, Hawaii’s offense burst on the scene, taking advantage of some mistakes made by Washington. After striking first in the second inning, the team from Honolulu scored four runs in both the third and fifth innings to win via mercy rule by a final score of 11-1. Kama Angell was one of the top performers in the win, going 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Curacao (1-0) vs. Panama (0-0)

Panama is making its first direct entry into the World Series. The team from Aguadulce went an impressive 5-0, outscoring their opposition, 30-3.

A dominant pitching performance from Curacao’s Davey-Jay Rijke helped the team from the Caribbean start off their World Series with a win. His team picked up a run in the second, and some insurance in the sixth, which to proved to be more than enough. Rijke went 5.1 innings, not allowing a run, while picking up 14 strikeouts in a 2-0 win.

Japan (0-0) vs. Canada (1-0)

The team from Takarazuka was able to take the Japan Region with four wins last month, scoring almost 40 runs in the process. They are hoping to be the first team from Japan to win it all since Kitasuna won in 2017.

Canada’s offense came alive in their first game on Wednesday against Australia. After going up 1-0 in the second inning, the squad from Vancouver opened things up in the fourth inning with three runs, before adding a few more insurance runs to pull away with a 7-0 win. Jaxon Mayervich led the team, going 4-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
