The Buffalo Bisons always play second fiddle to the Bills and Sabres. They're also behind in popularity to the Bandits, who are about to win the NLL Championship this week.
Still, Buffalo does love baseball. Bisons games for the playoffs have had the stadium full before, and the sports fanbase here filled the stands for the Blue Jays in 2021 for their regular season games.
The Bisons are having a decent season so far. The team is 31-22 through 53 games and are 3.5 games back of first place Rochester for first place in the International League East standings.
The Bisons just had a five-game home stand with the Rochester Red Wings, but lost four of the five games. The one Bisons win brought one of the most memorable moments in the franchise's history, however. It went viral on social media.
Outfielder Nathan Lukes hit an inside-the-park grand slam on Saturday night, which is about as rare a play as you can get in the game of baseball.
Inside-the-park home runs are rare, but they happen on occasion. An inside-the-park grand slam on the other hand, who knows when we'll see the next one of those.
The Bisons are about to play a six-game home stand at Sahlen Field against Worcester, starting Tuesday.
Don't forget, Star Wars Night at Sahlen Field takes place this Saturday at 6 pm. It's easily the most anticipated day at the ballpark of the summer for Buffalo Bisons fans.
