United States Steel Corp. X, -0.79% shares rose about 1% in premarket trades, rebounding from an 8.6% loss in the previous session. The company said Thursday it expects third-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.90 a share to $1.95 a share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet currently expect earnings of $2.09 a share. "We expect to deliver a solid third quarter, even as the business continues to respond to the market headwinds that have accelerated over the quarter," CEO David B. Burritt said in a prepared statement. "We have quickly adjusted our integrated steelmaking operating footprint to better match our order book and expect our Tubular segment to deliver another quarter of earnings growth."

China’s President Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin met in Uzbekistan, and the lukewarm reception reflects China’s behind-the-scenes discomfort with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
