Teams from both the Purple and Orange brackets look to stay undefeated deep in the heart of North Carolina on Friday, as the Little League Softball World Series continues.

Missouri (1-1) vs. Connecticut (1-1)

The team from Columbia, Missouri came out with a big offensive performance with their season on the line Thursday against Italy. After opening the game with four runs in the opening inning, Missouri poured it on, scoring seven in the third, and held the Italians to just one hit, winning via mercy rule, 12-0. Keelee Hagler was the star of the game, going 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

A strong pitching performance from Maddy Bonanno, and a couple of hits, helped keep Connecticut in the World Series. In their matchup with Canada on Thursday, the team from Milford scored a couple of runs right off the hop, before adding a couple more to take home a 4-0 win. Bonanno gave up four hits, while striking out six in the six innings pitched. Lily Stankevich had one of the team’s four hits, driving in one run while scoring three herself.

Maryland (2-0) vs. Philippines (2-0)

Winner of this game will get the first bid into the Purple Bracket Final on Sunday.

Maryland squeaked out an exciting game against Connecticut on Wednesday. The two teams traded runs in the third inning, but neither team marked up the scoreboard the rest of the way, sending the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Kinsley Rayne drove in Averi Naugle to pull off a 2-1 walk-off victory. Macy Rickards pitched another gem, pitching all seven innings, giving up just four hits, striking out 18 batters (first time that has happened in 10 years).

The Philippines pulled out another low-scoring game on Wednesday. After beating Canada 1-0, Jacey Pajotal put in another stellar pitching performance against Italy. She struck out 10 batters, giving up just one hit in the six innings. Two runs for the Asia-Pacific squad in the first and fourth innings ended up being all they needed in a 4-1 win. Chear Blancia went 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

California (2-1) vs. North Carolina (1-1)

A huge sixth inning helped keep California take down Washington on Thursday with their season on the line. The game was tied at one heading into the final frame, when the team from the West scored six runs on just two hits to come away with a 7-1 win. Zoey Colburn had one of the team’s four hits, driving in two runs and scoring once herself.

The host North Carolina squad played a near perfect game against Puerto Rico on Thursday to stay alive in the tournament. They took advantage of their opportunities, scoring a couple of runs in the first inning, and kept the pedal down the rest of the way, winning by a final score of 8-0. Ava Coward had one of her team’s hits, scoring three times.

Texas (2-0) vs. Virginia (1-0)

Whoever comes out on top in this game will go straight to the Orange Bracket Final on Sunday.

Texas received an outstanding performance from pitcher Zaneria Hughes on Wednesday against Puerto Rico. The lefty struck out 16 of the 20 batters she faced, surrendering just one walk. She was helped out by a couple of runs late in the game, as she earned a no-hitter as Texas picked up the 2-0 victory. They only had three hits in the game, with Rylee Little credited with the lone RBI for Texas.

Virginia has only had to play one game so far, and it featured them silencing the high-flying California offense on Wednesday. It featured a masterful pitching performance from Kaylee Hodges, who struck out 11, did not allow an earned run in a complete game effort. The Southeast’s offense started with a couple of runs in the second inning, before adding four over the third and fourth innings to come away with a 6-1 win. Aaliyah Myers was the offensive catalyst for Virginia, going 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
